About the Department

Agricultural Biotechnology is a department established within the framework of the restructuring of the Faculties of Agriculture in our country in order to provide education in a branch of science that shapes the future of world agriculture. Our department is planned to branch out into Plant Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology departments.

Agricultural Biotechnology has a very broad field of study such as plants, animals and microorganisms, and includes different techniques and methods such as genetic engineering, molecular selection and tissue culture. Although significant success has been achieved in the past with the use of classical methods in plant and animal breeding, today the use of shorter and more targeted biotechnological methods in developing new varieties is inevitable in terms of competition. For this reason, methods such as tissue culture, molecular markers, gene transformation, cloning, and creation of gene maps used in biotechnology are frequently used in plant and animal breeding, development of alternative agricultural control opportunities and other fields.

Mission: The mission of our department is; Our aim is to train agricultural engineers who are experts in different subjects related to Agricultural Biotechnology, with our academic staff who have the potential to produce and apply the necessary knowledge and technology in agricultural engineering, and to train academicians who will contribute to the agriculture of our country by conducting qualified research.

Vision: Our vision is to be a center of attraction that produces, uses and disseminates information nationally and internationally by providing education and training at an international level on plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology, enzyme and microbial biotechnology.
